Historical narrative: Stuart Padnos is a self-taught artist, art aficionado, and creator of whimsical outdoor sculptures that are assemblages of recycled pieces of scrap metal. When asked about his inspiration for the art, he repeats a notion that he has long maintained, "Scrap is beautiful, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder." In addition to his art, he is senior executive vice president of the 103-year-old Padnos steel company, which is also where he finds the material fodder for his creative endeavors. Padnos' works are in many local collections including Frederik Meijer Gardens' Sculpture Park, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University and many others.
